Supporting our community

Home gardeners can fulfill the need for fresh, healthy vegetables, fruits and herbs.

More than 74,000 people in Fairfax County didn't get enough to eat in 2021, according to the Capital Area Food Bank. That's more than anywhere else in Virginia.

Because the DC metro area's living wage is almost 3 times the federal poverty level, about 25% of area households live above the poverty line but still struggle to pay for basics like food and housing. (To learn more about food insecurity in our area, see the USDA food atlas.)

At the same time, the USDA estimates that 30-40% of all food in the US food supply is wasted.

Scroll down for a list of pantries taking fresh produce donations.

Contact Hands On Harvests if you are

  • a food bank or pantry that would like to receive Grow a Row donations or be added to our list.

  • a farm or production garden that would like to arrange pick-up of your surplus harvest.
